Keep Praying – When Life Falls Apart #2
By Scott MacFeat
Have you ever been tempted to give up praying? Maybe you’ve seen verses like 1 Thessalonians 5:17 which urges us to pray continually. But what about when we’re going through really difficult times? I’m sure you’ve experienced times when you struggled to find words to pray. I’d like to encourage all of us to look to the Scriptures when we don’t know what to pray.
Ever since the Scriptures were written, the LORD’s people have used them to guide their prayers. We can do the same thing! Today’s example comes from Psalm 77, which was a prayer of lament written by Asaph (probably one of King David’s musicians who led worship services). In Asaph’s day, this prayer would have been set to music, which is interesting because most of our modern songs focus on praise and hope rather than lament.
As you watch the devotional video and read Psalm 77, notice Asaph’s intense distress. Take note that he was not immediately comforted by the LORD. Why? Well, sometimes the LORD allows us to struggle because He wants us to trust Him. So, there might be times when we’re tempted to give up praying because we feel like God isn’t listening, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Psalm 145:18 – “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
Be encouraged today!
