What’s Keeping You Up At Night? – When Life Falls Apart #4

When was the last time you woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back to sleep?  For some of us, this happens often!  Suddenly we find ourselves awake as our minds begin to race with whatever is going on in our lives.  As much as we’d love to turn our brain off, we can’t!  So, what do we do?  Do we turn to our phones and catch up on our Instagram feed?  Do we look to Netflix to ease our anxieties and lull us to sleep?
I’ve read studies that show our screens will keep us up at night.  They’re actually designed to put our brains into overdrive, which is why what was supposed to be a quick game of Words with Friends ends up being an hour marathon.  Despite knowing this, I still sometimes reach for my phone at night.  But, instead of turning to our technology, what if we turned to God in prayer?  Maybe there’s a reason we’re awake?  Maybe we’re in distress and the LORD is keeping our eyes from closing (Psalm 77:4)?
Rather than choosing to distract ourselves, let’s go to God in prayer like the writer of Psalm 77…
Devotional Readings: Psalm 77:2-4 (NET); 1 Peter 5:6-7
